Worthy Cause

Our dear friend Quynh, who is a student at the University of Ohio and whose home is Hanoi, emailed me recently about a charity that she is involved with. Its main purpose is to provide students in nusery/elementary schools or schools without government sponsorship in the poor mountainous areas of Vietnam with meat in the daily meal at school. These students often have only white rice and salt to eat (green vegetables are a luxury). With just 10 cents, people could buy a more nutritious meal for a child a day. $6 - a month. $50 - a whole school year.  There is a fundraising push from now until November 5th because winter will soon fully settle on the mountains.

****Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause.  More info follows below!

CƠM CÓ THỊT (ONLY RICE IS NOT ENOUGH) is a charity program that raises funds to provide food and cooking services in elementary schools of poor highland mountain regions. The children in these areas have only plain rice and salt everyday without any other sources of nutrition. Together with supplying food, the program also aims to expand its activities by aiding more basic needs, such as clean water, hygiene and books and learning tools.

VND 2,000 (equivalent to 10 cents in US dollar) is enough for one meal with nutritious food, which means that VND 5,000 is for one day, and VND 120,000 is for a whole month. Imagine that with only a $6 US donation, you have supported nutritious meals for one child in one month, and with $50 US dollars, you have supported the child for a full year.

CƠM CÓ THỊT was first launched by Dr. Trần Đăng Tuấn and his fellows in September 2011 in Vietnam. The network has expanded extensively. By September 2012, it had reached a number of nations around the globe such as Australia, America, Japan, Sweden, Finland, Korea and China.

Now we have more than 5,000 children who have been supported meals by CƠM CÓ THỊT, together with warm clothes to cope with the freezing winters in mountainous areas. Everyday, we see fewer children with malnutrition, and more children go to school to learn. All the money and goods from the benefactors are transferred to the schools without one penny lost. The detailed data about funding resources is openly published at http://trandangtuan.com/

We call for a hand from our vast community to support children with a better future!

CƠM CÓ THỊT - A DIME FOR A MEAL from United States is a fund raising programme for Vietnam from the US under the network of CƠM CÓ THỊT ambassadors. We hope to have support from Vietnamese community, Vietnamese overseas students, and friends from US.
