First of all, our day started out with a very happy phone call during breakfast, all the way from California, announcing that dear friend Rachel has become a big sister to a healthy baby brother today. Happy Birthday Ryan Chazanoff and Congratulations to Rachel and the whole family!!! We can't wait to see the first photos of the family-of-four together!!!!
Halloween has become a nearly week-long event, since the downtown trick-or-treat night is held the Friday before Halloween. So Beatrice decided to go tonight as a FAIRY, a dress-up costume my sister got for her for fifty cents at a yard sale nearly a year ago, and in which B. has shown little to no interest. But, tonight was the night for this fairy's debut:
We joined the hundreds of locals in costume on a beautiful night and collected candy from the Main Street businesses.
One of the churches had a little haunted mansion set up, and this girl was very hesitant, but was able to muster up the courage from the security of daddy's arms.
We made our traditional pitstop at Victoria Station to explore and sample the loot, and met up with friend Lucy (aka Alice in Wonderland) from dance class.
The night ended with the annual photo of Beatrice and Ethan. These two have been together at this event almost every year since they shared their first Halloweens together in 2009.
After doing a few "traditional" house stops at Louise's , Fulcos, and Dad's, Beatrice came home and spent some time with her favorite thing in her pumpkin...a journal and pen from Weezy. She had about ten sketches done before bedtime.
And fresh from today's backpack......she said these ghost outlines were given in art class and the direction was to "color" them. Apparently she decided it would be far more interesting to turn them into "ballerinas in tutus holding parasols so they don't get burned by the sun." Good to know Catholic School hasn't killed her creativity yet.
And here's how her name writing is changing. Just when she mastered beautiful upper case lettering (top picture was done in September), they've switched it up on her since she's now truly a pre-KINDERGARTENER and I'm amazed at how nicely her lower case name is looking in just a few weeks. She really fought it at first, but it's already close to automatic.
Today we have dance class and pumpkin carving at Fulcos, then tomorrow is a Halloween party at the McGarry house, and of course Wednesday is the school Halloween madness, so there should be several photos to come in the next few days.
And one final thought to etch into this permanent records....I interrupted Beatrice the other day, and when I did it for the 2nd or 3rd time she said, in an ever-so-polite tone:
"Mama, please, find a key and lock up your mouth......please...." Never in my (almost) 45 years have I been told to shut up in quite that way. As my principal said when hearing the story, "She said what countless have thought all these years!"
