PINK

I've never understood the obsession and dominance of pink for little girls' clothing, and I don't think we've ever bought Bea one predominantly pink thing. That being said, we are blessed in that most of her wardrobe consists of beautiful gifts and hand-me-downs, and many of them in her current size/the current season are indeed pink. She can wear any color well, so here is my new philosophy on pink: If she's going to wear it, she might as well "pink out" from head to toe! Molly Ringwald, eat your heart out...

Memere Celina's/Aunt Louise's Garden, 1969 & 2010

I took some photos yesterday at my sister Louise's house, which used to be the home of my grandparents. Memere Celina's prides and joys were her son and grandchildren, number one, and her garden, number two. The photo above, whose original is in color, sat framed on her precious baby grand for many years, and now many of us have (very aged and faded) copies of it. I'm guessing it was taken in summer 1969 when I was about 18 months old and, when my sister's daffodils came up recently, she urged me to bring Bea over and try to recreate some baby-garden magic. As I look at them side by side now, I realize one of the best parts of the original photo, which is missing in those taken yesterday, is "the hand." Apparently Memere had a photographer nearby shooting away so that she could be with me in the garden and not have to worry about holding a camera simultaneously.
Happy Earth Day!
